Review
Purpose:
The purpose of a review is to analyze
and evaluate a creative work (movie, book, novel, painting, etc.), and to
inform people about the strengths and weaknesses.
Text structure:
A review text consists of the
following parts.
- Orientation, which serves as a background information about the creative work that going to be discussed. The orientation identifies the work.
- Interpretative recount, which summarizes the plot of the work or the way the work came into being. in reviewing the movies or plays the plot and characters are briefly summarized. However, interpretative recount is optional in review. Many reviews of creative works do not include this part.
- Evaluation, which present judgement and opinions on the creative work or performance.
- Evaluative summation, which sums up the review’s opinion of the art work or performance as a whole.
Language features:
- Use metaphorical language
- Use epithets to describe the quality of something
- Use complex and compound sentences.
